Educate Together NS pupils earn their third Green Flag

The Green-Schools team at Mullingar Educate Together NS have earned their third flag, for our work in conserving and protecting water in the school and local community.

Green-Schools is Ireland’s leading environmental management and education programme for schools. It promotes long-term, whole-school action for the environment which is student-led with involvement from the wider community too. Flags are awarded as a result of a two-year body of work based on a specific environmental theme.

The staff and children have been busy over the last two years, learning everything they can about the current threats to clean water supplies and finding ways to reduce and save the water we use every day, both at home and in school.

“We joined many of the schools in Ireland last Wednesday who were awarded their Green flags, with our flag raising ceremony,” said ETNS teacher, Martina Dolan. “The ceremony was led by our Green-Schools Committee, a group of students from each class who have led the way over the last two years.

“We now have three green flags and are looking forward to continuing with the programme in the coming years. We’re very proud!”
