Killucan Ladies chosen for Lidl ‘One Good Club’ programme

Killucan Ladies GFC has been selected to represent Westmeath in the Lidl One Good Club programme for 2022.

Lidl One Good Club™ was developed in partnership with LGFA and Jigsaw, the National Centre for Youth Mental Health.

The club will be creating opportunities for all the members of Killucan Ladies and the wider community to promote positive mental health and support young people.

The five-step programme is made up of simple actions aimed at boosting mental health and wellbeing. The steps include:

– Connect

– Be Active

– Take Notice

– Give

– Keep Learning

The club hopes that all of its players, mentors, coaches, committee members and families participate and get involved in the different activities over the summer.

Killucan’s first event ‘Be Active’ took place on Thursday May 26, in the guise of training with a twist! All of the club’s teams, from U6 right through to the intermediate ladies, came down to the pitch together. A fun sports day event was held, with lots of activities such as potato and spoon races, musical statues, obstacle courses and more.

This was the first time many of the younger girls got to meet the club’s senior players, and it was fantastic to watch them all cheering for and supporting each other during the events.

“We would like to thank the coaches and committee members who came to help out with the running of the events,” said Barbara Gough, on behalf of Killucan Ladies GFC’s One Good Club committee.

“We really appreciate the parents/guardians bringing the girls to the event and we hope they enjoyed watching it. We may have some events coming up for parents/guardians to join in!

“A huge thank you to Martina in Lidl for the treats and refreshments afterwards, and to Maureen Ahearn for taking so many fabulous photos.

“But our biggest thank you goes to the girls who came down to the pitch and really got in to the spirit of the event. Your smiles and laughs and watching you all having so much fun together were exactly what the event was about.”

Killucan Ladies GFC hope to run their second ‘Be Active’ event in the next few weeks.
