Anna Browne is running a 'flower bar' at John Daly's this Sunday.

Blooms, bouquets and beer

A beer garden behind a pub might seem like an unusual location for a flower workshop, but it’s all happening in John Daly’s this Sunday, June 19.

In this novel collaboration, Mullingar woman Anna Browne of Big Sky Flowers will be bringing her expertise, equipment, and most importantly, her locally grown and fragrant flowers to John Daly’s Beer Garden in Mullingar from 6pm to 8pm that day.

Anna has always been a passionate grower, but she really ‘dug in’ to sustainable flower farming in recent years, and launched her business, ‘Big Sky Flowers’ (https://bigskyflowers.ie) in 2019.

Anna grows her flowers in a small suburban garden, without any artificial fertilisers or pesticides.

Says Anna: “John Daly’s pub, in its current form, has been inspirationally innovative since its re-opening, and boosted local morale all through the worst of the lockdowns with their frequent re-inventions. Check out their new Facebook page to keep up to date with upcoming events.”

Even if you don’t know a carnation from a calla or an aster from an anemone, it doesn’t matter: just come along to Anna’s ‘flower bar’, get your creative juices flowing, select your flowers and put them together in your own way.

“It’s time to play with all the colours and shapes that the season has to offer. The flowers are all beautiful so you can’t go wrong, but Anna will be on hand to get you started and give you some pointers, or make up a bouquet for you based on your selections.

Lovely flowers, lovely people, craic, great venue - what more could you want of a Sunday evening?
