Westmeath Community Games back for 2022

Covid-19 stopped Westmeath Community Games in early 2020, but they’re back with a buzz now and looking forward to this year’s competitions.

Virtual events took place in early 2021 and later in the year physical events began with athletics, team events, pitch and putt and swimming.

Fourteen areas affiliated to take part in the competitions under strict and cautious conditions, and a number went forward to compete in the Leinster rounds, and several medals came home from Community Games National Finals.

Congratulations to all that participated in those event finals in 2021.

Over the past few months, Westmeath Community Games committee have been encouraging inactive areas to get back involved, but many, like other sports and activities are having a real difficultly getting support to form committees.

Now that we can hold physical events again, some lapsed areas are showing interest in becoming involved, but with deadlines fast approaching for affiliation for the coming year, it may be too late for some for 2022 – but if areas have queries please contact the committee.

U12 Girls Gaelic Drumraney-Tang.

The last few weeks have been extremely busy and in a buzz of excitement this week, many young participants were up and out on the field competing for their areas.

“Thank you to all our competitors, their families and team managers, event coordinators, Community Games Volunteers, referees, county and area committees and all involved in making the past few weeks run so smoothly,” said Ms Wallace.

“It is hoped that the coming week things will settle down as teams prepare to head to Regional Finals and some on to Leinster. Full details of events will issue to area secretaries in the coming days, best of luck to all teams in the next round.”
