Hat-tricks for Duncan and Dillon in Milltown win

Cumann na mBunscol Westmeath Division 5 football final: Scoil Phádraig, Milltown 9-3, Kilcleagh NS, Castledaly 2-7

Both Louie Dillon and Tristan Duncan scored hat-tricks as an impressive side from Scoil Phádraig, Milltown overpowered Kilcleagh NS, Castledaly in the Division 5 football final last Thursday afternoon at TEG Cusack Park.

There was very little between two well-drilled sides in the opening quarter, at the end of which the boys in green led by 3-0 (two from Dillon and one from Duncan) to 1-4 (a Josh Duffy goal, and points from the boots of Michael Fox, two from Alex Pillion, and Duffy from a free).

However, Milltown took control at this juncture and they scored an unanswered 2-3 during the remainder of the first half.

Jack McDonald (a drop kick) and Samuel Byrne (who rolled the ball home) scored the goals, while Byrne also landed a brace of points from play and McDonald converted a free. Milltown led by 5-3 to 1-4 at the break.

Byrne and Duffy traded goals shortly after the resumption, but Milltown went on to pounce for two more three-pointers within minutes, courtesy of Duncan and Dillon.

The hard-working Duffy slotted over a further three points in the closing stages, all from frees, but these were cancelled out by Duncan’s third goal.

After the match, Derek Butler, chairman of Cumann na mBunscol in Westmeath, presented the trophy to the winning captains, Louie Dillon and Jack McDonald.
