Keena at the double for Sligo

Mullingar’s Aidan Keena is now one goal off the top of the Airtricity League of Ireland Premier Division scoring charts, after bagging an impressive brace in the north-west derby against Finn Harps at The Showgrounds last night.

The former Hearts striker (23) opened the scoring after three minutes with a real screamer typical of his repertoire. Keena was involved in the build-up play before rifling a right-foot shot from the edge of the area.

Karl O’Sullivan doubled Sligo’s lead four minutes later, before Keena wrapped up the win in the 85th minute by heading home a cross from Will Fitzgerald.

This is the Mullingar Athletic alumnus’s fifth goal in two games against Finn Harps; he scored a hat-trick against the Donegal outfit in March.

Keena has now hit nine league goals this season, and is one behind Derry City’s Jamie McGonigle in the scoring charts.

Sligo Rovers, who sit in fifth, have games against Drogheda United, Dundalk and Shelbourne coming up, before commencing their Europa Conference League qualifying rounds against Welsh side Bala Town on July 2.
