Flynn in the running for the Meath job

Bernard Flynn has reportedly been nominated to replace Andy McEntee as the manager of Meath football team.

The former Mullingar Shamrocks manager and player had a brief spell as the manager of the Meath U20s last year but stepped down after a disagreement with McEntee over access to players.

Senator Shane Cassells tweeted at the weekend that Flynn had confirmed to him that he was interested in taking over from McEntee, who stepped down after Meath were defeated in the first round of the qualifiers by Clare in Ennis on June 4.

The deadline for nominations from clubs passed on Monday. One of Flynn's All Ireland winning team mates in 1987 and 1988, Colm O'Rourke, distanced himself from the Meath job earlier this month.

"I did actually go for the Meath job on three occasions in the past and even somebody as stupid as I am would get the hint that when you're told 'No' on three occasions, I think that should put it to bed,” he said.
