Fledgling sailors ‘thrilled and inspired’ after first outing

Exhilarating, exciting and great fun is how some of the participants on Mullingar Sailing Club’s adult introduction to sailing course described their experience.

Mullingar’s newest sailors can feel a real sense of achievement having battled strong winds in what was a challenging first weekend of sailing.

A well-deserved barbecue was enjoyed by all on the second weekend as the course finished up on Sunday 19th June. The club would like to thank instructors Jack Hayes and Isabel Hunt also assistant instructors: Caelum Casserly, John Tunney-Zummerchik and Ellie O’Sullivan Sexton for running a successful and enjoyable course and everyone who contributed from organising to helping out with the barbecue.

Our junior courses will be kicking off on July 4 with some spots still available. For details check our website www.mullingarsailingclub.ie.

The club is looking forward to hosting two major events this year, Mirror Westerns will be held on August 27-28 and the GP14 Leinster Championships from September 17-18. Both events bring a great buzz to the shores of Lough Owel and make for great viewing from viewpoints around the lake.

A number of members will be representing the club in August when they sail in the GP14 World Championship held in Skerries Sailing Club Dublin. It’s a great opportunity for our sailors with the championship coming to Ireland and we wish them the best of luck.
