Hammerlake plan moves significant step forward

The application for planning permission for the multimillion euro Hammerlake film studio in Mullingar has moved a significant step forward today (Monday), with approval by officials completed, subject to a material contravention of the County Development Plan.

It is understood that the item will come before councillors at the September meeting. A warm welcome for the news has come from Minister Robert Troy: “I am delighted!” he said, adding that he had met with the project promoters a number of times. He said the investment was significant and would put Mulllingar on the map internationally. He complimented colleague Senator Aidan Davitt on his support for the project also.

The application submitted by Hammerlake is for what they describe as an international film studio campus, incorporating an international base for headquarters administration and office space; four film/TV sound studios; and a workshop building for set and prop construction.

The site is close to the Lidl didtribution centre at Lough Sheever Corporate Park.
