French students enjoying themselves while staying in Mullingar

“We’re having a really good time,” says a group of French students who are enjoying their time holidaying here in Mullingar.

The group of 26 students are staying with local families around the town to improve their English and experience Irish culture.

Day long trips are organised for the group during their stay here. Daily activities are also planned for them usually taking place at Columb Barracks where they meet every morning.

Whether it is a trip to Belvedere House and Gardens, a walk around Fore Abbey or arts and crafts at the barracks, they are a busy bunch.

With the help of Mary Irwin and her team, a group of French students arrive in Mullingar every year.

The team work hard to organise accommodation for the students as well as plan their two weeks of fun.

Clement and Pierre first came to Mullingar back in 2019, on the same exchange, and were delighted when they got the opportunity to return this year.

They said they love Mullingar and are very happy to be here again.

Last week, the group travelled to Galway where they enjoyed the cobbled city and went for a swim at Salthill beach.

This week, they plan to head to the capital and visit museums, parks and experience Dublin.

Last Thursday and Friday, the group, who are returning to France on Thursday, were painting flower beds and tractor tyres at Columb Barracks, here is how they got on.
