Council refuse planning permission for Killucan housing development

Westmeath County Council has refused planning permission for a new housing development in Killucan.

The unsuccessful application by Shay Gillen included details for the construction of eight two storey houses in Rathwire Upper.

According to council planners, the proposed developed would not “successfully integrate into the surrounding landscape and pattern of development within the immediate vicinity”.

The council also noted that development “could pose a risk to traffic safety and public health”.

The application was the subject of six objections from local people, who expressed concerns about a number of issues, including road safety and that in their view the proposed development was not consistent with the area.
