Teenage cyclist hospitalised after Walderstown traffic accident

Athlone Gardai are investigating a road traffic accident in Walderstown yesterday evening (Tuesday) in which a teenage cyclist sustained non-life threatening injuries.

The accident took place on the R390 road when a teenage cyclist who was exiting the Walderstown Service Station was struck by an oncoming car.

Emergency services attended the scene and the R390 road was closed for a period of time in the immediate aftermath of the accident. The cyclist was removed to Tullamore Hospital and subsequently transferred to Temple Street Children’s Hospital in Dublin, where he is still receiving medical care.

The R390 has since re-opened to traffic, and a spokesperson for Athlone Gardai said “all aspects of the road traffic collision are currently being investigated.”
