Sad passing of popular Midlands business man and broadcaster

The death has been announced of Albert Fitzgerald, the former managing director of Midlands 103.

The sad news was confirmed by Midlands 103 today.

Fitzgerald, 59, passed away on Saturday.

Fitzgerald, a prominent and popular broadcaster and business man, announced his retirement as managing director of Midlands 103 in January.

Albert started his commercial radio times at Cork pirate ERI in the 1980s and joined Midlands 103 in 1995. He as an instrumental figure in the growth of the station over the the last 25 years.

A native of Cork, he was also a well known and popular figure in the business community of the midlands.

He was voted Business Person of the Year by Tullamore Chamber of Commerce in 2012 and was subsequently named Business Person of the Year for Laois, Offaly, Westmeath and Longford in 2013.
