Peace Garden opened to honour work of Sister Finbarr Breslin

The work of Sister Finbarr Breslin in caring for women and children during her life in Mullingar, and indeed the midlands, was remembered with the opening of a Commemorative Peace Garden in her memory at Teach Fáilte.

Her work continues to this day and on Thursday last, her friends, family, and some of those she worked with came together to celebrate the opening, as at the time of her passing, many could not travel to her funeral due to Covid restrictions.

Bishop Emeritus Michael Smith in the presence of Rev Alastair Graham officially opened a peace garden in her honour.

At the opening of the garden in honour of Sr Finbarr were Martin Marshall, Eamonn McCormack, Terry McCague and Colm McHugh.

Temporary Emergency Accommodation Midlands (TEAM) has also renamed its office as Áras Finbarr.

David Smyth Catering provided a delicious BBQ for all who gathered, including the residents at Teach Fáilte, staff, members of Sister Finbarr’s family, friends and members of the board of TEAM.

Many memories of Sister Finbarr’s work and good deeds were shared throughout the evening.

The Bishop Emeritus commented that “when Sister Finbarr came knocking, it was always for a worthy and worthwhile cause.”

Robert McGivney, chairperson of TEAM thanked all who were involved and stated that having a restful space, for the homeless women and children who use TEAM's services, was a fitting way to remember Sister Finbarr and to continue the life changing work she began.
