Junior karate summer camp a great success

Mullingar Kyokushinkai Karate Club recently held their Junior Summer Camp for 2022. The camp was open to young people aged six to 16 years, and covered karate basics (Kihon), fun activities, sporting agility and team-building exercises.

A guest instructor Donal Connaughton of Llanera Fighting Systems (Filipino martial arts) visited the camp mid-week to impart knowledge about weapon safety/awareness, and the components of avoidance and escape from a self-protection perspective. This proved very informative and everyone enjoyed it immensely.

The camp ended with a visit to Dublin Zoo supervised by some volunteer parents. A really great time was had by all.

Classes continue and the Dojo caters for adult members also. New beginners are always welcome, male and female.

Kyokushin is a traditional form of Japanese karate and is renowned for the ‘knockdown’ full-contact system of fighting. The club has been in existence for 21 years to date, and has seven black belts to its name including one female. Gradings are held throughout the country at regular intervals.

Karate is fun and safe to do, improves self-confidence, heightens awareness and is good for mental health. Details: www.kyokushinireland.com.
