Mullingar Choral Society – ‘We’re back’

After more than two years Mullingar Choral Society are ready to embark on a new season. Their last recital was on March 8, 2020, when they performed Handel’s Messiah, a week before the country went into its first lockdown due to the spread of Covid-19.

“To say we were lucky is an understatement and we are very much aware of other groups and societies who did not get a chance to perform as a result of lockdowns,” said a Stephen Cummins, president, Mullingar Choral Society.

“Our season begins in September with rehearsals for our Christmas Concert, which will take place on December 4. The first rehearsal is on September 6 in St Paul’s Church, with registration at 7.30pm.

"We are sending out an invitation to past members, recent members and anyone who wishes to join our choir to come along to St Paul’s on Tuesday September 6, where you will receive a warm welcome.

“Many people in Mullingar and indeed from further afield have told us over the years that the Choral Society’s Christmas concert was seen as launching the Christmas season. Our plan is to offer a mix of choral pieces together with the traditional Christmas carols and songs known to all.

“As in the past, our concert will include a solo artist and a school choir – details to be announced later. Remember to put Sunday December 4 in your diaries and again, we would be delighted to see some new members on September 6.”
