Roscommon GAA investigates incident which left referee needing medical attention

Roscommon GAA has launched an investigation into an incident during a minor football championship match which necessitated a referee receiving medical attention.

An ambulance was called to the match venue of Ballyforan last night (Wednesday) and the referee was assessed at the scene by medical personnel. He was subsequently brought to Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe for further assessment.

The match was abandoned after the incident took place early in the second half.

Roscommon GAA has released a statement stating that its Competitions Control Committee (CCC) will be fully investigating the incident.

As is usual GAA practice regarding such incidents, the referee's report will play a crucial role in how the matter is dealt with.

“Roscommon GAA is aware of an incident involving a referee during an underage match in Ballyforan on Wednesday evening," said the Roscommon GAA statement.

"We would like to wish the referee involved in this incident a speedy recovery.

"Roscommon GAA strongly condemns any behaviour that puts any of our match officials at risk.

"The CCC will commence a full investigation into the incident.

"We will not be making any further comment at this time,” the statement continued.
