Retired Westmeath Garda officers attend centenary event

A group of retired local officers were among 2,000 people who attended the recent ceremony in Dublin Castle to mark the centenary of the establishment of An Garda Síochána.

The August 27 event featured a recreation of when Commissioner Michael Staines led 380 civic guards through the castle following its evacuation by the British army.

Among the locals to attend were retired officers Mick O'Gara, PJ McTague, Roger Nicholson, Brendan Colvert, Jack Reynolds and Eddie Nolan, as well as former staff member Joanne Killian.
