Speedboats on local lakes a "concern", says Smyth

People are becoming increasingly concerned about the use of speedboats on local lakes.

That's according to Cllr Hazel Smyth, Mayor of Mullingar Kinnegad Municipal District (MKMD), who told the September meeting of MKMD that “local residents are particularly concerned”.

Responding to Cllr Smyth's question on the issue, MKMD said:

“The monitoring of speed boats is regulated under The Maritime Safety Act 2005. The Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad currently have no powers over speedboats; however, the Community Wardens and the public can report issues to the Gardai who may use enforcement powers.”

Cllr Smyth said that she intends to raise the issue at the next meeting of the Joint Policing Committee.
