Mixed weather conditions today

Mostly cloudy in the south and east this morning, with patches of rain or drizzle. Brighter weather with scattered showers in the west and north will gradually extend southeast to all areas through the day. Highest temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees in light to moderate westerly winds.

Early tonight a band of heavy showers will move into western coastal counties, with the potential for some thunderstorms and hail. It will quickly track eastwards across the country and will be followed by clear spells and isolated showers. Breezy with moderate to fresh south to southwest winds. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees.

Tomorrow will be a windy and showery day. There will be frequent heavy and potentially thundery showers, mainly in the west during the early morning but becoming widespread for the rest of the day. Spot flooding is likely in any heavy downpours. It will become windy as fresh to strong south to southwest winds develop, with very strong gusts at times. Feeling cool with highest temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees.

Turning drier overnight on Saturday as showers gradually become more isolated, though they will occasionally be heavy in western and northwestern areas. Feeling chilly with lowest temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees. Winds will ease light to moderate southwesterly overnight.

Turning wet on Sunday before a drier start to the coming week. However, unsettled conditions will make a return from midweek onwards.

A mostly dry and bright start to the day on Sunday apart from isolated showers in the northwest. Cloud will build from the south through the day, bringing outbreaks of heavy rain during the afternoon and evening. Turning breezy with the rain as southeasterly winds increase moderate to fresh. Highest temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees.

Sunday night, rain will gradually clear northwards, with drier weather and clear spells following. There will be scattered showers in the west and northwest. Remaining quite breezy with moderate to fresh southerly winds. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 11 degrees, coolest in Ulster.

A drier day on Monday with spells of sunshine and just a few light showers. Highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees in moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, easing later.

A cold, dry and mostly clear night is forecast Monday. Some mist and fog will develop in light easterly or variable winds. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 6 degrees.

Tuesday should see a good deal of dry weather with sunny spells, though it will turn cloudier through the day with some light rain and drizzle possible in southern areas. Highest temperatures of 12 to 16 degrees in moderate easterly winds.

Further outlook: Turning more unsettled once again from Wednesday onwards, with rain and showers possibly turning heavy at times.
