David and Kevin are doing Ireland proud in Portugal

Two members of Mullingar Jets Swimming Club, David Hogg and Kevin Kennedy, are in Portugal to take part in the World Down Syndrome Swimming Championships between Saturday last October 15, and October 22 next.

Last week, members of the club made a presentation to the two athletes at Mullingar Swimming Club.

David and Kevin are members of the Irish Down Syndrome Sporting organisation (IDSSO) and along with seven other athletes from Ireland are representing their country in international swimming competition at Albufeira, Portugal.

They have represented Ireland previously in the Down Syndrome European Swimming competition in Sardinia 2019 where they were placed in top ten in Europe for breaststroke and butterfly respectively.

Both young men are active members of the local swimming club Mullingar Jets Swimming Club where they do all their swimming. They are very well supported by coaches past and present, and fellow swimmers. They and their families wish to acknowledge their gratitude to Mullingar Jets for the continuous support they receive.

The Irish Down Syndrome Sporting Organisation (IDSSO) is a national body set up to help develop sporting ability in young people with Down Syndrome and afford opportunities for excellence in sport.

Mullingar Jets Swimming club promotes inclusion and diversity for members and both boys are a testament to this. They have demonstrated how committed they are to swimming as they juggle day service, education programmes and work alongside busy training sessions powered by their extra chromosome.

The club looks forward to celebrating their success on their return from Portugal later in the week.
