Millie's sympathy for community of Creeslough noted in the Democrat

Pat Doherty, who lives in Donegal Town and used to live in Mullingar, sent this photo of a page in his local newspaper to his brother-in-law Denis O'Rourke - who has passed it on to the Westmeath Examiner.

In this week's Donegal Democrat, columnist Frank Galligan pays tribute to Millie Walsh, and notes in particular his heartfelt sympathy for the people of Creeslough.

Frank writes that on a trip to Mullingar some years ago, Millie had greeted him with, 'Ah, Donegal, the pride of all!".

This year Frank was here for the fleadh, and he called again at the Maxol garage on the Dublin Road.

That time Millie greeted him with, 'Donegal Danny's been here, me boys!'.

Frank was back in Mullingar last week, and Millie was more solemn, as he expressed his sympathy for the community of Creeslough.

Frank writes: 'He presented me with a beautiful Legion of Mary Care Pack, complete with holy water, lovely blue and green Rosary beads, prayers and Novenas.

'He simply shook my hand and said, 'we're all with them up there... give them this from me'.

'He also had his flag flying at half mast.'

Frank said he would pass the pack on to Fr John Joe Duffy in Creeslough 'another remarkable Christian gentleman'.
