More bins needed around Mullingar - Glynn

A local councillor has voiced his disappointment at what he sees at Mullingar Kinnegad Municipal District's reluctance to install bins around Mullingar.

At the October meeting of the MKMD, Cllr Ken Glynn asked that a bin be installed at close to the entrance to the Royal Canl estate on the Ardmore Road.

Repsonding to Cllr Glynn's question, MKMD said: “The Litter Management Plan Municipal District, as adopted, contains the following policy:- Westmeath County Council service and maintain a significant number of street litter bins throughout the district. It is now a policy of Westmeath County Council to encourage people to bring their litter home for disposal. In keeping with that adopted policy, Westmeath County Council would not propose to install a bin at this location.”

Cllr Glynn said that he was “disappointed”with MKMD's answer and questioned the council's reluctance to install bins in busy locations around Mullingar.
