Tyrrellspass Tidy Towns embraces spirit of Halloween with Fancy Dress Ball

Tyrrellspass Tidy Towns aim to capture the Halloween ‘spirit’ and are hosting ‘The Fancy Dress Ball’ on Saturday October 29 at Gonoud’s.

They promise an amazing night of entertainment, music, song and dance and great prizes including a two-night stay and dinner at the 4-Star Clayton Hotel, Galway.

The prizes for the best dressed also include a four-ball play at New Forest Golf Course and a dining experience at Browne’s on the Green. There will also be a raffle on the night with lots of prizes.

Entry is only €10 and music is by Declan Feery, so the Tidy Towns committee and volunteers invite you to go along, dress up and join in for a great night of fun at Gonoud’s. Tickets are available from Gonoud’s Bar, Eventbrite or contact Monica 087 4134822.

Background

Tyrrellspass Tidy Towns has been serving the community of Tyrrellspass for more than 50 years. Over that time many volunteers have contributed in many ways with their time and effort, taking care of weeding, planting, litter picking, sweeping, painting, fundraising, serving on committees, and so on.

“The cumulative effect of this ongoing effort has been to preserve and enhance the environment of Tyrrellspass and make it a place people are proud to live and work in, that welcomes and entertains families and friends and provides a destination of choice for national and international visitors,” says chairman, Gordon Maxwell.

Each year Tyrrellspass Tidy Towns participates in the SuperValu Tidy Towns Competition and performs increasingly well, having won the national prize in 1969. Tyrrellspass is in the top 10 per cent nationwide.

Doing well in the competition serves to improve visitor numbers to the village, improve the profile and branding of Tyrrellspass and from an economic perspective serves to bring more business and investment to the village.

It costs money to sustain the year-round efforts of the CE scheme workers and volunteers – for example, the ride-on lawnmower has just been replaced at a cost of €10,000.

“Planting, insurances, fuel and so on are ongoing and increasing year on year costs, albeit tightly managed.

On the income side, the association members are grateful to their sponsors and to those who support their draws, provide competition awards, and to Westmeath County Council and Westmeath Community Development for grants.

Tyrrellspass Tidy Towns has several new projects in the pipeline, in particular in the area of sustainability and biodiversity, and welcomes the support and involvement of the community in these initiatives.

“Thank you to all our supporters. We welcome you always to our beautiful village!”

See you at our Fancy Dress Ball on Oct 29!
