‘Labour Listens’ tour in Mullingar this week

Labour leader Ivana Bacik, TD, will visit Mullingar this Thursday for the latest ‘Labour Listens’ town hall meeting and for a number of engagements with Cllrs Johnnie Penrose and Denis Leonard and other midlands local area representatives.

Confirming that the meeting is at 8pm on Thursday, October 27, in the Mullingar Park Hotel, Cllr Leonard said: "I am really looking forward to Ivana coming to Mullingar on Thursday. We in the midlands want to hear about people’s experiences as we face what could be a bleak winter thanks to the cost of living crisis and the housing disaster.

"We really want to listen to people about their concerns, and hear from communities about what they’re doing to address the cost of living, and coping with the terrible energy insecurity and rising energy bills.

"We want to offer our vision for change, for how we can improve things in Ireland and how we can make the country work better for everyone."

Cllr Leonard said the meeting is a public meeting and Labour want to hear from as many members of the public as possible about the issues that affect them.

Labour want to see an Ireland that "works for all" he said, and to hear ideas about how to achieve that. He highlighted care, climate, housing, work, and rural regeneration among the issues.

"We want to take these ideas and suggestions back with us and we will use them to inform our policies and manifesto for the next election."

Deputy Bacik said: "The midlands has a proud tradition of Labour representation going back more than a century, including most recently Willie Penrose. It is important to me that I hear from you, about how we can build an Ireland that works for all, so please do try and come along to our meeting in the Mullingar Park Hotel and I look forward to seeing you there."
