Kilbeggan artist's work on show at The Atrium

Works by the Kilbeggan artist Mark Rowan have gone on display at The Atrium at the County Buildings in Mullingar.

‘The Crawl’ is a combination of works created by Mark while on his journey of recovery from mental health difficulties. Having been hospitalised twice, Mark found great comfort in expression via the medium of art, a love that has progressed and remains with him today.

On September 9 last, Mark became the first person to crawl up Ireland’s tallest mountain, Carrauntoohil. The crawl was to highlight mental health struggles and to emphasise to anyone that may be struggling: “Any mountain can be climbed even if one must crawl”.

Mark paints in an abstract style and each piece holds its own story. One piece which is on display is known by many who have followed his journey as “hidden within”. It was created step-by-step online depicting how trauma becomes part of who we are.

Mark has created an online community via Facebook where he continues to share his own story and offers support to others on their journey. Having received so much support, he has decided the journey is not yet over and will move to the next stage known as ‘The Freeze’.
