David and Kevin do Ireland proud at World Swimming Championships

Mullingar Jets members David Hogg and Kevin Kennedy did their country and county proud at the recent World Down Syndrome Swimming Championships in Portugal.

David came fifth in the world in the 200m breast stroke with an impressive time of 3.42. Kevin recorded a personal best when he came eighth in the 100m fly at 1:28:15. The winner of Kevin's race beat the world record.

David and Kevin are members of the Irish Down Syndrome Sporting organisation (IDSSO) and along with seven other athletes from Ireland represented their country in international swimming competition at Albufeira, Portugal.

They have represented Ireland previously in the Down Syndrome European Swimming competition in Sardinia 2019 where they were placed in top ten in Europe for breaststroke and butterfly respectively.

Both young men are active members of the local swimming club Mullingar Jets Swimming Club where they do all their swimming. They are very well supported by coaches past and present, and fellow swimmers. They and their families wish to acknowledge their gratitude to Mullingar Jets for the continuous support they receive.

Mullingar Jets Swimming club promotes inclusion and diversity for members and both boys are a testament to this. They have demonstrated how committed they are to swimming as they juggle day service, education programmes and work alongside busy training sessions.
