Met Éireann: Yellow wind and rain warning in place for Wednesday

Torrential downpours have caused flooding across many areas of Mullingar and surrounding areas.

Met Éireann have a status yellow wind and rain warning in place for the entire country today, Wednesday.

The warning came into effect this morning at 4am, and continues until 9 o'clock tonight.

Flooding at Ballinderry, Mullingar, near the Dog Track.

A spokesperson for Met Éireann said:

"During the morning, a band of heavy squally rain will sweep eastwards across the country bringing spot flooding and local thunderstorms.

"Southerly winds, later veering west to southwest, will be very strong and gusty with possible severe and damaging gusts, especially near south and west coasts.

"Rain will clear eastern counties in the early afternoon with sunny spells and thundery showers of rain or hail following.

Highest temperatures of 10C to 14C.”

The advice is to slow down when driving and allow extra time for journeys.
