Human trafficking suspect to appear at Mullingar District Court on Thursday

A man charged with human trafficking is due to reappear before Mullingar District Court on Thursday following an appearance at a special sitting of Longford District Court this morning.

Lucky Osazee Enoghegase (36), with an address at Great Western House, Frenchville Lane, Galway, was arrested by Gardaí from Mullingar yesterday morning as part of ongoing investigations into human trafficking and related criminal activity.

He was conveyed to Mullingar Garda Station where he was detained under section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1996.

He was charged by Detective Garda Niall Stack last night with conspiring with another to traffic a person for the purpose of exploitation contrary to section 7(6) of the Criminal Law (Human Trafficking) Act 2008.

He was further charged with a second human trafficking offence by Garda Karen Coghlan. The accused made no reply to either charge.

Solicitor for Mr Enogheghase, Frank Gearty, said no application for bail would be made today but there will be an application for bail on Thursday.

Judge John Brennan proceeded to remand Mr Enogheghase in custody and he is due to reappear on Thursday, December 1, before Mullingar District Court.
