Met Eireann says 'Arctic airmass' could bring snow later this week

Met Eireann has said showers of "hail, sleet and snow" are likely to occur during the second half what's shaping up to be a bitterly cold week.

The forecasting service has issued a 'winter weather advisory' for Ireland, saying the 'Arctic airmass' over the country will bring sharp to severe frosts and icy stretches on our roads.

Forecasts will be updated, and weather warnings in relation to this cold snap are expected to be issued, in the coming days.

Night-time temperatures will be below zero in the Midlands throughout the week, with the mercury set to fall to minus-4 degrees Celsius on Wednesday and Thursday nights.
