Westmeath community centres receive funding of €376,000

The Rochfortbridge community centre, St Joseph’s Parish Hall, has been allocated €300,000 for renovation and refurbishment.

Works include replacing all windows and doors, upgrading toilets, kitchen, electrics and heating system and insulation of the entire building.

The Comhaltas Centre in Moate has been allocated €76,810 to repair the roof, insulate walls, upgrade heating with a new boiler and upgrade radiators and install LED lights’

This new funding for rural communities in Westmeath was announced this morning.

Minister of State Peter Burke, TD, said it will support volunteers, children and all who use community centres.

“It will mean the buildings are warmer, safer and can accommodate more community groups.

"Community centres are the backbone to our rural parishes and areas and I’m glad Minister Humphreys has recognised that and created this new stream of funding from the Department of Rural and Community Development.”
