Another cold day in store with some wintry showers

Weather update from Met Éireann

Very cold this morning with widespread frost and ice on untreated surfaces. A few patches of freezing fog also leading to difficult road conditions.

Maximum temperatures of zero to four degrees today as a Status Orange Low Temperature/Ice Warning will remain in place for 16 counties until noon. It includes Cavan, Monaghan, Meath, Westmeath and Offaly among others.

Most areas will have a dry morning with some sunshine, but showers will move in across the northwest. The showers will extend southeastwards over the country during the late afternoon and evening, turning wintry in places with icy conditions in some areas.

Cold on Friday night with clear spells and scattered showers, some wintry and with icy conditions in places. Areas of mist and fog will develop, especially in the midlands. Lowest temperatures generally ranging 0 to -3 degrees in light to moderate southwest winds.

Another cold day on Saturday with mist and fog in some areas. There will be plenty of dry weather, but with a few showers, especially in southern and western coastal counties. Highest temperatures of 1 to 4 degrees generally, but between 5 and 8 degrees in coastal areas of the south and west in light to moderate southwest winds.

Cold early on Saturday night with some frost in the midlands and north for a time. However, outbreaks of rain will spread from the south overnight and it will turn less cold. The rain will be heavy in places and perhaps preceded by some mountain snow in Ulster. Lowest temperatures of 0 to +4 degrees in fresh to strong southeast winds.

Rather windy on Sunday with outbreaks of rain or drizzle, most persistent in the south and west of the country. Much milder than preceding days with highest temperatures ranging from 8 degrees over north Ulster, to 12 or 13 degrees in the south in fresh and gusty southerly winds. Very mild on Sunday night with scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Temperatures not dropping below 10 to 12 degrees nationwide in fresh and gusty southerly winds.

Mild and breezy on Monday with outbreaks of rain in the south and west, extending to all areas in the afternoon. Maximum temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees in fresh southwest winds. Rain in the east will clear on Monday evening to leave a fresh and blustery night on Monday night with clear spells and scattered showers. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees in fresh southwest winds, strong on Atlantic coasts.

Windy on Tuesday with sunny spells and scattered showers, some of the showers heavy with hail in Atlantic coastal counties. Maximum temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees in strong and gusty southwest winds, with gales at the coast. Rather cold and blustery on Tuesday night with clear spells and passing showers, some of hail. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees in brisk southwest to west winds.

Early indications suggest Wednesday will be a fresh and breezy day with sunny spells and scattered showers. Highest temperatures generally ranging 6 to 9 degrees.
