Mullingar represented at tri-county networking event

Mullingar's Denise Buckley of Sugar Plum Sweetery represented LEO Westmeath at a tri-county Women in Business event.

Involving counties Westmeath, Longford and Leitrim, the women gathered in The Sin Bin at Longford Rugby Club, and after two years of Covid restrictions, and the return to in-person business and events, the theme for the evening was 'Rest, Relax and Refocus!'

Speakers on the night included well known broadcaster and journalist Carole Coleman, who shared her career and life experiences while emphasising the importance of taking time out of busy schedules for yourself; Fran Best of Lissawell Coaching facilitated an ice-breaker and networking session, giving attendees the opportunity to circulate, network and share ideas face to face after two years of doing so on-screen.

The local business showcase featured a business from each of the three counties, including Denise Buckley of Sugar Plum Sweetery for LEO Westmeath; Jenevieve Butler of Midland Hearing Care represented LEO Longford, and Richelle South of Leitrim Hill Creamery represented LEO Leitrim.

All three women told the story of how they came to set up their own business, speaking freely about some of the challenges and opportunities they faced in building and sustaining their enterprises.

Although sometimes operating in very different spheres of industry, common to all three was that they ‘followed their passion’. Another common theme to all was the need to plan and prioritise their schedule. What was truly refreshing was the honesty and openness in the conversation, the techniques they use to relax after a stressful day, the importance of the people around you and the self- belief necessary to keep motivated.

The event was very well attended with participants delighted to meet and socialise in person again. All are now looking forward to 2023 and a new calendar of events to celebrate local women in business with the first event taking place on March 8, to celebrate International Women’s Day – save the date!
