St Finian’s TYs design keycard holder

Transition year students at St Finian’s College, Grace Cotter, Ellen Clarke, Liam Donnelly, Kerri Croash, Katie Gannon and Grace Kelly, have entered the Student Enterprise Programme with a new design aimed at helping both students and adults.

"This is a little card holder we designed because we have swipe cards for school and we have to swipe in every morning," said Kerri Croash. "Sometimes you forget it, so we designed something that you could attach to your bag or your trousers.

"You can also put a mini-version of your timetable in it as well, so it’s handy if you don’t know which classes you’ve got during the day, you can just take it out and have a quick look. It can also be used by everyone to hold a bank card, and can be attached to a handbag."

Kerri said that they team used a laser cutter in the school’s technology room to make the design by hand. "The card holders are cut out of acrylic, and to bend them over you just use a strip heater and a drill."
