Bus leaves road between Moate and Athlone
A man is in hospital in a serious condition this evening after a bus he was driving left the road between Athlone and Moate.
The Bus Éireann vehicle, which was carrying 18 passengers at the time, came off the road at around 5.30pm near The Pike on the old N6 between Athlone and Moate.
No other vehicles were involved in the incident. Gardai are believed to be examining if the driver suffered a health episode.
It's understood there were no significant injuries reported among the passengers, although they were left shocked and shaken by the incident.
The old N6 is closed for the night in the area and will reopen tomorrow.
