Oscar nominated Irish film to be shown in Moate

An Cailín Ciúin, which recently made history as the first Irish-language feature film to be shortlisted for the Oscars, will be screened in Moate tomorrow evening.

The film is set in 1980s rural Ireland and is based on the short story 'Foster' by Claire Keegan.

The story centres on nine-year-old Cáit, played by Catherine Clinch, who is sent by her dysfunctional family to spend the summer with an aunt and uncle she has never met.

Cáit finally gets the opportunity to experiences a loving home for the first time when she spends the summer on a farm in Rinn Gaeltacht, County Waterford.

Despite himself, her uncle Sean, played by Andrew Bennett, forges a bond and Cáit enjoys the beauty of a loving home.

Cáit's aunt Eibhlín, played by Carrie Crowley, immediately welcomes Cáit, showing her love and teaching her how to do chores around the house and farm.

The once quiet Cáit blossoms in their care, but in this house, where there are meant to be no secrets, she discovers one.

An Cailín Ciúin will be screened at Tuar Ard Arts Centre tomorrow (Tuesday) at 8pm. Tickets cost €5 and are available on the door.
