Further remand in custody for double murder accused

A woman charged with the murder of two of her children near Multyfarnham last year has had her case adjourned for a further month, as the state prepares a book of evidence.

Lynn Egar (48) of Winetown, Rathowen, was due to appear by video link at Mullingar District Court this morning (Friday). However, Ms Andrea Callan, BL, representing Ms Egar, said that her client is currently in the Central Mental Hospital in Dublin.

The defendant is charged with the murders of her children, Thelma and Mikey Dennany, aged five and two respectively. The siblings were fatally injured in a car fire at Lacken, near Multyfarnham on September 9 of last year.

Ms Egar was remanded in custody to appear before Judge Bernadette Owens via video link at Mullingar District Court on Friday February 10 for service of the book of evidence.

Mr Peter Jones, state solicitor for Westmeath, told the court that a “substantial” amount of evidence is being assembled for the book, and if it is not ready by February 10, it will be soon afterwards.
