Clonmore road safety improvements needed - Glynn

The need for safety improvements along Clonmore Road in Mullingar was raised for discussion at the January meeting of the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad by Cllr Ken Glynn.

The Fianna Fáil man, speaking on his motion, told the council executive that the upgrade of the three calming measures along this road would help resolve a lot of issues being experienced by residents.

He said that in particular, the residents of Newbrook Grove and Clonmore Heights were having difficulties exiting their estates.

“It’s becoming very, very dangerous: this is a very busy through road,” he said, going on to add that he had witnessed several “near misses” at the pedestrian crossing near the fire station.

In response, the district undertook to carry out a traffic speed survey along the route in order to identify if further works were required to augment the existing calming measures.

Cllr Glynn said he welcomed this response, but was also of the view that if even the three existing traffic calming measures could be upgraded it would help: “I’m not looking for anything extra, but if the three there were brought back up to spec and redone it would help resolve a lot of the issues.”
