Official opening of Milltownpass woodland trail on Sunday

The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) and Milltownpass Tidy Towns celebrate the official opening of the new bog and woodland trail at Milltownpass Bog NHA (Natural Heritage Area), this Sunday, February 5, at noon

The trail, which was developed by the NPWS in collaboration with Milltownpass Tidy Towns, is 1.5km in length and adorned with wildlife sculptures by woodcarver Richie Clarke.

Cllr Hazel Smith, mayor of the Municipal district of Mullingar and Kinnegad, will be on hand to cut the ribbon, after which NPWS Ranger Therese Kelly will offer a guided tour highlighting the abundance of flora and fauna to be enjoyed along the trail.

Local heritage will be shared relating to a derelict cottage along the trail and refreshment will be provided before and after the tour.

Attendees are asked to park at Wrights car park in Milltownpass, where a shuttle bus will take visitors to the trail starting at 11.30am every 15 minutes.
