Ecstasy tablets worth over €300,000 seized in Athlone

A major drugs seizure has been reported by Revenue officials working in Athlone today (Wednesday).

Officers examining parcels at a premises in the town uncovered more than 5kg of MDMA, or Ecstasy, tablets while carrying out routine operations.

The drugs, with an estimated value of €303,000, were discovered in a parcel that had originated in the Netherlands and was destined for an address in Kildare.

Revenue said no further information was available, as investigations into the seizure were ongoing.

A spokesperson said the seizure was part of Revenue's ongoing operations targeting the importation of illegal drugs.
