Ger’s retirement brings an end to his daily delivery duties

Postman Ger O’Connor left Mullingar’s An Post deliveries office with a van full of mail on Friday week last, to do his final round of deliveries after 35 years of service.

The popular Mullingar man spent 35 years with An Post, the last 14 years of which were on the Ballinea, Loughnavalley, Killare route.

Ger’s family are closely linked with Ireland’s postal service, going right back to the old ‘Posts and Telegraphs’ days: his grandfather was the head postmaster in Ennis GPO; his father was an overseer, and both his mother and grandmother served as telephonists.

The link continues as Ger’s son Joe O’Connor is delivery services manager in the Mullingar Delivery Services Unit.

Ger’s eldest son, Shane, was a postman in the Turin area prior to his untimely death in 2016. We wish Ger all the best in retirement.
