Ambassadors for Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia 2023 announced

Manchán Magan is one of the official ambassadors of Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia, it was announced today at a launch at an Ché Adhmaid, Baile Átha Cliath. He joins Maura Derrane and Éadaoin Fitzmaurice as ambassadors for the 2023 festival.

Manchán is a renowned writer and documentary-maker who lives in Collinstown; Maura is a television presenter and journalist, originally from Inis Mór; and Éadaoin Fitzmaurice is a content creator and marketer.

At a panel discussion today, the ambassadors spoke about their experiences with the Irish language and the ways they will be using Irish during the festival and further throughout the year.

Maura Derrane said: “I always knew a lot about Seachtain na Gaeilge, so I was happy when I was asked to be an ambassador this year. Growing up in the Gaeltacht, the Irish language was always around us, so I understood the importance of promoting the Irish language during Seachtain na Gaeilge.”

Conchubhair Mac Lochlainn, cathaoirleach of Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia, said at the launch today: “We’re delighted to have three fantastic ambassadors with us this year. They have unique and interesting stories about their experiences with the Irish language, and they will be sharing those as they promote Irish on the national and international stage between March 1 and 17 March.

“During the festival, we are looking forward to seeing events held in communities across Ireland, in the Gaeltacht, in towns and cities and further afield. Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia is an opportunity for communities across Ireland to use, practice and learn Irish together.”

Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia will be officially launched in An tAonach, Tiobraid Árann on February 25 at 2pm. The annual event is held on March 1-17, with Irish language events taking place across Ireland and around the world during the festival.
