There were plenty of smiling faces in Gaelscoil An Choillín this morning thanks to the pancake cooking exploits of members of the parents association.

A team of parents donned their aprons to not only make pancakes for the school's current crop of pupils and staff, but also for this September's incoming junior infants.

Speaking to the Westmeath Examiner this morning, secretary of the parents association Leighanne Brady said that the annual event is not only very popular, but also serves an important purpose.

“We have had classes from junior infants to sixth class in for their pancakes and now we are inviting the upcoming junior infants so they can come in and see what the school is like, get some pancakes and so that their parents can meet.

“They are going to meet the teachers, have a tour around the school and we are also going to hold a raffle as a little fundraiser.

“I'd like to thank all of the teachers for helping out, the parents for coming and to all the children who brought in their money to have their pancakes.

“I'd also like to thank all of the parents on the parents association who came and volunteered and all of the businesses that donated prizes and helped with the raffle.”
