Aoife Downs from Drogheda and Liam Glynn from Emper, at the Late Late Show Valentine special.

Liam ‘keeping in touch’ with Late Late date

There was a strong Westmeath presence at the Late Late Show Valentine’s special as Emper man Liam Glynn was selected from seven eligible bachelors by Aoife Downs from Drogheda, while Alison Spittle from Ballymore and Maura Higgins from Forgney, just over the Longford border, appeared as special guests.

After the show, Liam, who has also appeared on First Dates and is no stranger to TV cameras, said he found the Late Late Show experience “amazing”.

“To even be selected as one of the seven to take part in the Three Chair Challenge was great and I certainly wasn’t expecting to be chosen,” he told the Westmeath Examiner.

After a lively display of his Irish dancing skills, Aoife was won over, and Liam admits that he never did Irish dancing in his life, but he does “a bit of part time acting” and is well able to improvise.

“Aoife was really nice and we had lots in common,” Liam said. He was disappointed, though that they were not sent backstage or off for a meal to get to know each other better. Instead, they joined the other 200 love-seeking guests in the audience for the rest of the show.

Afterwards, the guests headed off to Ryan’s of Camden Street and later Copper Face Jacks nightclub.

Liam said he and Aoife got on well together and have been keeping in touch, but he is still “open to negotiation” and looking for the right person with a view to settling down.

He is looking for a woman with “a bubbly personality who is a bit energetic and willing to put up with me”.

Having run several marathons, keeping up with him might be no easy task.

Liam is also involved in amateur dramatics and is at present rehearsing for The Carnival at Glenduff, a comedy that will be staged in Legan Hall on March 23-26.

Liam is 38 years old and deputy manager of the Lidl store in Longford. He lives with his parents Cyril and Breege and has three sisters Therese, Maire and Claire.
