Cuidiú Mullingar thanks Regina and Ruth

Cuidiú Mullingar marked the retirement of Regina Keogh and Ruth Rooke at a function in the Annebrook House Hotel on Friday February 24 last.

Ruth and Regina, who have more than 35 years of service between them, were presented with gifts and later enjoyed a celebratory meal attended by 21 members.

Sonia Quinn, chairperson of Cuidiú Mullingar, gave a speech acknowledging the dedication of Regina and Ruth, and all the families helped by their expertise and care.

“Cuidiú is an entirely voluntary charity and they gave up many, many hours of their own time to help mams and babies get breastfeeding off to a good start,” said Sonia.

The Mullingar branch of Cuidiú was founded in 1996 by Catriona Corcoran. Since then, membership has continued to grow.

It is a parent-to-parent support group whose breastfeeding counsellors are available seven days a week, including evenings and weekends.

“The service that’s provided by us is free,” said Sonia, who emphasised that no one has to pay or become a member to receive the help from the organisation.

Sonia also thanked the HSE for funding the Cuidiú breastfeeding counsellor programme.

With more than 200 trained counsellors, Cuidiú hosts support groups and coffee mornings all over Ireland.

The charity aims to empower parents and provides antenatal and postnatal support as well breastfeeding assistance.
