Westmeath people in St Patrick’s Day parades abroad

Two of the more distinguished members of Mullingar Shamrocks, Pearse Corroon and Ned Moore, represented the club in the St Patrick’s Day Parade in New York and made the long march from 45th to 79th Street up 5th Avenue.

Ned and Pearse linked up with Frank Kavanagh, a former champion handballer and senior championship winner with Mullingar Shamrocks; Criostóir Dalton from Castletown, Michael Stone, who recently became the main sponsor of Westmeath Development squads with his brother, and Mr Westmeath GAA in New York, the president of New York Westmeath GAA Club, Tom Nugent.

Also in New York was Garda Cory Brady, Streete, representing An Garda Síochána in the St Patrick’s Day parade in New York, who Kevin Sullivan, Killasonna, Granard. Their home places are 5k apart, but they had never met until the parade in New York.

Lorcan Reilly, a native of Mullingar, representing Westmeath in the Auckland St Patrick’s parade.

Lorcan emigrated to New Zealand in 2017; he is married to Louise Turmer, a native of Auckland, and his daughter Ashling accompanied him on the parade.

Lorcan lived at Parsonstown, Mullingar before emigrating. He works with Sky TV.
