Success on the double for GLOR Children's Choir at Feis Ceoil

The Moate-based GLOR Children’s Choir is celebrating this week after achieving a second place finish in two prestigious competitions at Feis Ceoil 2023 in the RDS in Dublin.

The choir came out second from a field of five very strong choirs in the Sacred Music – Children’s Choir section, and they were also placed second in the Junior Choirs – Unison section of the prestigious competition.

GLOR Children’s Choir was established by Ciaran Brady in 2008 as a training ground for primary school singers from from across the Midlands. Members work with sheet music, learn to sight read and receive vocal training with graded exams.

Ciaran Brady, who is the founder of the ‘Academy of Music” in Tullamore is a full time professional Vocal Coach and conductor of many award-winning choirs.

The success of the GLOR Children’s Choir at Feis Ceoil follows hot on the heels of the success of the GLOR Youth Choir (for Secondary School ages) who achieved a top three finish at the prestigious North Wales International Choral Festival earlier this month.

Both choirs rehearse on Thursday evenings at 6pm in Tuar Ard Theatre in Moate and new members are always welcome.

Preparations for the children’s choir participation at Feis Ceoil 2023 began in January with some brand new repertoire to learn. In the lead up to their competitions, they treated parents to a short performance of their work before heading off last Tuesday to the Dublin RDS Feis Ceoil with their Piano Accompanist, Katherine Crossen, and minders and body guards Shana, Katie and Sophia.

The young members of the GLOR Children’s Choir were singled out by the adjudicators at Feis Ceoil for “a wonderful, blended sound and a dynamic performance of a challenging musical programme”.

They went on to their second competition also achieving 2nd place to great acclaim on the adjudication sheet.

Dublin’s RDS Feis Ceoil is Ireland’s foremost classical music competitive festival, and is an event of major significance in the development of musical talent in Ireland. To be successful at the Feis is very important in the musical career of many entrants, and for many others itis a means of obtaining enhanced enjoyment from their music while also providing a yardstick by which to measure their personal standards.
