Planning sought for new residential development on the Ardmore Road

Planning permission has been lodged for a new residential development on the Ardmore Road that would be the first phase of a larger “masterplan” that could see over 400 residential units built on a green field site.

The planning application by Shaston Development Ltd, a subsidiary of local firm Bennett Construction, includes details for the construction of 71 residential units, consisting of 30 apartments and 41 houses on a 1.9 hectare site.

The proposed development is the first phase of a three part plan by Shaston to construct a total of 414 residential units (180 apartments and 234 house) on a site adjacent to the Royal Canal estate.

In the planning statement submitted with the application on behalf on Shaston, The Planning Partnership says that the proposed development “represents the suitable use of residential zoned lands in this area of Mullingar, which is in close proximity to local employment, education, and amenity services”.

“It is respectfully contended that the proposed development is following the preferred approach for the development of Mullingar as a Key Town identified within the Regional Spatial and Economic Strategy, and complies with the provisions and goals of the Ardmore / Marlinstown Development Framework.”

The decision due date for the application is May 9.
