Mullingar Lions Club planning their 2023 Summer Cycle Challenge

Mullingar Lions Club have organised a summer cycle challenge for bank holiday Monday, May 1.

There will be two options available - 100km for all cyclists relishing a good spin out; and 50km for those who wish to enjoy a leisurely sportif.

The route will commence at 10am from Shandonagh GAA Centre, go on to Glasson, to Moate and back via Kilbeggan, Tyrrellspass, Rochfortbridge to Shandonagh.

Refreshments will be served at halfway stage and on completion of cycle.

Registration will begin at 9am and the fee is €30.

All funds raised from the event will go towards Mullingar Lions Club’s project to provide respite and support for families dealing with special needs and autism.

Frank Dillon, event coordinator, said: “This is an area that we in the Lions Club have become aware of over the last 10 years through our Family Support Programme.

“We realise the huge gap that is out there for families seeking support and assessments.

“We hope over the next year to provide valuable assistance that will relieve some of the stress and hardship that many face.

“So we are calling on all cyclists to come out on the first day of summer, have an enjoyable and fun cycle, while giving hope and support where it is very much needed.”
