Dancer Ellie May looking forward to world championships

Mullingar's Ellie May Ní Dhónaill has a big week ahead of her.

Ellie May (13) is travelling to the INEC Killarney next Monday, April 3, to take part in the An Comhdàil World Irish Dance Championships.

Ambitious Ellie May has worked hard to make it to the world championships. She travels to Lucan three times a week for practice at the Caren and O'Neill Academy.

Speaking to the Westmeath Examiner, Ellie May's mother and her biggest supporter, Eímear, who sits through hours of feiseanna, dance practice and trips around Ireland, says that her daughter is looking forward to competing in the championships.

"It's a huge achievement to make it to the worlds. She has gone from strength to strength trying to gain back those two years Covid took from our young dancers.

"Her teachers Marie Caren and Michaela O’Neill have guided and supported Ellie May to where she is today. Her determination, hard work and hours of practice is shown with this massive achievement to make the world championships.

"She aspires to be a Riverdancer and we have no doubt she will make it there."
